MERO AND MERROW DESCENDANT LISTED ON THIS SITE
Although every effort was made to make the information contained
in this site as accurate and reliable as possible, there were times
when the only available information was from that of a descendant of
a particular ancestor. In several instances the information on this
site dealing with those Amirault / Mireault descendants who became Meros,
this was the case. Research was done to try to corroborate this information
but limitations of time and resources made it impossible to check every
source.
Much of the information that could be confirmed was that of those
Amirault / Mireault descendant who settled in the area of Sandwich and
Amherstburg Ontario in the early 1790's. The book Genealogy of the
French Families of the Detroit River Region 1701-1911 (1987) by
Rev. Christian Denissen includes details of the lineage of many of the
descendants of Jean Baptiste Amireau and Marie Archange Desmarais who
settled in this area around 1791. Many of their descendants emigrated
from this area of southern Ontario to Michigan and other regions of
the United States. In the process, their surname went through the usual
changes that contact with the English would make. Most of these descendants
that settled in Michigan became "Meros" and others "Merrows".
Today these descendant are dispersed throughout the United States.
LES DESCENDANTS MERO ET MERROW LISTÉS SUR CE SITE
Malgré tous les efforts qui ont été faits afin de rendre l'information
contenue sur ce site la plus juste et fiable possible, il arrive parfois
que la seule information disponible sur un ancêtre donné provienne d'un
descendant. On retrouve plusieurs de ces cas sur le site lorsque des
descendants Amirault/Mireault sont devenus Mero. Des recherches ont
été effectuées afin de corroborer ces informations mais le temps et
les ressources disponibles ne permettent pas de valider chaque source.
La majorité de l'information qui a pu être confirmée concerne les
descendants des Amirault/Mireault qui s'établirent dans les régions
de Sandwich et Amherstburg en Ontario au début des années 1790. Le livre
Genealogy of the French Families of the Detroit River Region 1701-1911
(1987) par Christian Denissen fournit des détails sur plusieurs lignées
de descendants de Jean Baptiste Amireau et Marie Archange Desmarais
qui s'établirent dans cette région vers 1791. Plusieurs de leurs descendants
ont immigré à partir de cette région du sud de l'Ontario vers le Michigan
et d'autres régions des États-Unis. Leur nom a par la suite subi les
transformations occasionnées généralement par le contact avec les anglophones.
La plupart de ceux établis au Michigan sont devenus Mero et Merrow .
Aujourd'hui, ils sont dispersés à travers les États-Unis.
